{"id":240,"date":"2019-10-18T14:55:15","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T18:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.jamesblakeley.ca\/?p=240"},"modified":"2019-10-18T17:10:01","modified_gmt":"2019-10-18T21:10:01","slug":"a-general-system-error-occurred-vim-fault-genericvmconfigfault","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.jamesblakeley.ca\/?p=240","title":{"rendered":"A general system error occurred: vim.fault.GenericVmConfigFault"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Environment<\/h2>\n<p>vCenter 6.7u3<br \/>\nVeeam 9.5.4.2753<br \/>\nTintri EC6070<br \/>\nWindows Server 2012 R2 Client Machine<\/p>\n<h2>Problem<\/h2>\n<p>So i have had a few Veeam backup jobs fail with the following error:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Processing &lt;Virtual Machine&gt; Error: A general system error occurred: vim.fault.GenericVmConfigFault<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within vCenter i also see the same error when trying to delete the snapshot.<\/p>\n<p>I tried creating and deleting a snapshot and i got the same error:<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">WARNING: be careful of the files you are dealing with!<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Open the Datastore where your Virtual Machine is hosted and create a new folder i called my _JB_Temp<\/p>\n<p>Open your virtual machine directory<\/p>\n<p>Move the following files to the temp folder<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>*.vmsd<\/li>\n<li>*.vmsn (VM Snapshot)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then Delete All Snapshots<\/p>\n<p>You should be able to create and delete snapshots and your backup jobs should now complete without error:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">**Check on your datastore that all delta disks have been merged\/deleted**<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Once you are able remember to clean up the temporary folder on your datastore<\/p>\n<p>If you still have problems i would suggest opening a SR with VMware Support<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=mad_manc\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Environment vCenter 6.7u3 Veeam 9.5.4.2753 Tintri EC6070 Windows Server 2012 R2 Client Machine Problem So i have had a few Veeam backup jobs fail with the following error: Processing &lt;Virtual Machine&gt; Error: A general system error occurred: vim.fault.GenericVmConfigFault Within vCenter i also see the same error when trying to delete the snapshot.
